Life class II – Female body

5 minutes sketch

A short 5 minutes pencil sketch of our model, Doreen. When doing short poses, I found that general lines are much more important than details to suggest form, expression, and even weight. To be able to draw quickly, I need to look more at the model and look less at what I am drawing.

After several “warming up” short sketches, a longer one (40 minutes) allows more time to observe detail and textures.

A Day at the Life Class

Once every two weeks I go to life class. The models change each time and we make sure the hall is well heated.

Graham, 10 minutes pose

To warm up we start off sketching two 10 minutes poses. These are generally of the model standing.
Here is Graham on a 10 minutes pose, holding a pole.

Following these we have one or two longer poses, of 20 or 25 minutes, sitting. We try to use different light effects to show the forms better.
