An Intimate Wedding
The lack of postings and temporary absence was due to important changes in my personal life: now, since June 16th, I am Mrs. Ellis.
Our wedding was very intimate – almost a secret one.
The ceremony was just a civil one, with only Robin’s parents – our witnesses -, a couple of friends, the registrar and us. After exchanging vows and rings, we went to Leiston Abbey to take some pictures and finally we all had lunch at the Bell Hotel in Saxmundham.
Two days later, we crossed the English Channel and spent a few days touring Europe, with no route planned or hotels booked. We visited small towns and villages in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany.
Most people here seem to think our wedding and honeymoon were very romantic… and they are absolutely right!
The following bit is for the girls only:
What did the bride wear?
Something old: the dress.
Something new: lacey underwear.
Something borrowed: a golden ring that Robin had given to Mary when he was a boy.
Something blue: The skyblue and white Argentine rosette, and blue cornflowers in my hair.
The dress:
The dress I wore for my wedding has a story.
One or two weeks before the wedding, we visited Mary (my brand new mother in law) and spent two days looking for something nice to wear. I didn’t want anything fancy but we searched every shop in 4 or 5 towns of Mary’s county and we could not find anything suitable in my size.
When we returned home, a little disappointed, I suddenly found, at the bottom of my wardrobe, a short, sleeveless, white lace dress. It had been bought in Buenos Aires, several (10?) years ago as a birthday present from my late Granny, who died last year, at the age of 102. Due to our English weather, I never had the chance to wear this dress, and it had been totally forgotten … until now!
I feel that dress was my Granny’s way of being present at my wedding.
The hair:
It has been said that my hair is wild and it has a life of its own. I never go to the hairdressser’s… and my wedding was not going to be the exception.
I wanted to wear some wild flowers on my loose hair. So, very early in the morning of the wedding day, the groom was sent – with very precise instructions – to pick some flowers for me!
